Absolutely, it is not a big secret. The teams do the complete opposite, despite having recruitment experience, good data teams and ability to bring any overseas player they want. So, the question is: are they serious to win the Championship or just marketing in the US as a big sporting brand?
Very well pointed. You mentioned Washington Freedom. Ricky Ponting has set a template to make full use of PP. Both PBKS and WSF have taken the same approach.
The approach also helps WSF in one of the games where the asking rate was low, but they lost quick wickets. Because there was no scoreboard pressure, they managed to win it courtesy of Mark Chapman's innings in the death overs.
When we talk about the Seattle Orcas, which has a similar coaching staff to the Delhi Capitals, the approach to PP has been the same in both the IPL and MLC. David Warner and Faf du Plessis both are retired and play with the same old tempo.
It's a very fair comment. And since you pointed out on Ponting's template, atleast he has shown that he, as a coach can adapt to the newer changes, that's why he is touted as a coach as well, despite his limited knowledge of players, outside Australia and India.
I agree. I did watch that match and Chapman had a lot of time to stay and chase the target, which was crucial considering all other batters were still opting for the high risk strategy from top to bottom.
W.R.T Faf, he's still striking the ball at a high SR, though not at the heights of Short and Owen, but he's keeping that SR better than many others at IPL teams, including Warner, whose selection is such an iffy one, considering his serious downfall since 2022-23.
Yes, Faf du Plessis has maintained that tempo in MLC and TSK has some solid scores in PP too. But he was struggling at the IPL probably because of his game time as he missed few in between and also DC’s top order failing on most occasions.
The Weird Thing is, This is Not a Secret. We Know This.
We Do the Opposite Despite Knowing It.

Where’s the Marketing? They are playing in front of Empty Stadiums in the US Time Zone.
